What is the Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy? The policy is part of the State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing) 2021.
It introduced new planning controls to allow dual occupancies, terraces, townhouses, apartments and shop top housing in low and mid-rise housing areas across the following regions:
- Greater Sydney
- Central Coast
- Lower Hunter and Newcastle
- Illawarra-Shoalhaven.
The low and mid-rise housing areas are residential zones within 800 metres walking distance from town centres and train/light rail stations. All of these areas have been pre-identified by the state government and will facilitate expeditious development approvals for the identified areas.
Whilst this is fantastic news if you hold one of the sites already designated or anticipate on purchasing in these areas, it still does not mean much for the rest of the state.
